Description:
The fundamentals of this occupational area can be mastered by completing the newly redesigned Business and Computer Technology Program. Completion of the required curriculum will qualify students for entry-level or advanced employment depending upon their past experience, training and personal motivation. The student will have an opportunity to choose from a menu of specialty areas that best meet his/her desired occupational goals. The specialty areas offered are: Fundamentals of Computerized Accounting & Financial Services, Fundamentals of Multimedia Services, Fundamentals of Medical Office Procedures and Fundamentals of Microcomputer & Networking.

| BCT125 | Fundamentals of Computerized Accounting & Financial Services: This one-year program provides students with the fundamental skills and knowledge necessary for success in modern accounting environments. Students will be exposed to generally accepted accounting procedures and then apply them in various automated applications. The curriculum introduces students to a computerized accounting system designed for small to mid-size businesses. The curriculum also includes career-specific instruction in production and interpretation of financial statements, maintenance of payroll, maintenance of accounts payable and receivable, billing, data entry, maintenance of accounting files, personal money management, office equipment, and customer service. | |
| BCT126 | Fundamentals of Medical Office Procedures: In this program a student can complete either a path toward an administrative support or office management position or that of a medical office assistant, transcriptionist, or coder. The student will learn the fundamentals of computers and office support by processing documents using the Microsoft Office Suite and/or Medisoft Medical Software. | |
| BCT127 | Fundamentals of Multimedia Services: This course introduces students to the fundamentals of multimedia production. In a hands-on class, students will learn aspects of planning, creating, and managing multimedia projects in an integrated computer environment. Students will add visual imagery, text, graphics, video, audio, and animation to create multi-sensory projects throughout the program. This course uses many different applications and also covers storyboarding and design concepts, presentation skills, HTML, digital imaging, scanning, use of digital cameras, and video editing. | |
| BCT128 | Fundamentals of Microcomputers & Networking: This course is a dynamic hands-on program of study that teaches students on the subject of the development and applications of computer technology as it offers an introduction to microcomputer hardware fundamentals and basic networking essentials. It is designed to provide the student a solid foundation on the PC knowledge. This 525-hour program is designed to help students prepare for CompTIA A+ and Network+ certifications. Students will learn to administer and provide technical support for Windows 98 and Windows 2000 Professional. Upon completion of this program, the student will have the knowledge to assemble and troubleshoot a PC and select appropriate components and peripheral devices for a computer. The Networking unit serves as a general introduction to current network technologies for Local Area Networks (LANs). | |
