Residential-Commercial Construction Technology
Description: This program is to prepare students for opportunities in the construction industry and will provide classroom and hands-on training. Students will develop skills in the use of power tools and construction materials. Curriculum includes fundamentals of carpentry, residential form, frame and finish carpentry and commercial form, frame and finish carpentry.

CRP101

Introduction to Carpentry: This course introduces students to the carpentry profession, safety, materials, and building techniques to provide the foundation for advanced residential and commercial carpentry skills.

CRP102

Mathematics and Plan Reading: This course reinforces the mathematical concepts necessary to become successful as a professional carpenter. In addition, construction plan reading concepts are introduced and reinforced throughout the carpentry curriculum.

Carpentry Tools: This course introduces the hand and power tools utilized in the carpentry profession and instruction in job-site equipment.

CRP104

Welding, Rigging, and Materials Handling: This course provides instruction and work-based application in oxyacetylene and arc welding for the construction industry, rigging procedures, and carpentry materials handling and storage.

CRP105

Site Layout, Level, and Transit: This course is designed to allow the students to learn the use of a level and transit. The student will be able to erect batter boards, locate building lines, lay out footings, square building lines, and set grade stakes. The student will show this knowledge by completing the assignment sheet, job sheets, and written test with a minimum score of 85 percent.

Residential Form Carpentry: This course provides instruction and work-based application in concrete foundations, footings and foundation forms, edge forms, and special applications.

Residential Frame Carpentry: This course provides instruction and work-based application in floor and sill carpentry, wall and ceiling carpentry, roof carpentry, and special framing.

CRP108

Residential Finish Carpentry - Exterior: This course provides instruction and work-based application of finish carpentry for cornices and gable ends, roofs, exterior walls and trim, windows, and exterior doors.

CRP109

Residential Finish Carpentry - Interior: This course provides instruction and work-based application of finish carpentry skills for insulation, drywall, interior walls and ceilings, interior doors and trim, cabinets, special built-ins, and flooring.

CRP110

Practical Experience-Live Projects Level I: This course is designed to introduce students to skills needed to build a variety of construction projects in the shop.

Commercial Frame Carpentry I: This course provides instruction and work-based application in commercial frame carpentry including floor and sill and wall and ceiling metal studs.

CRP202

Commercial Frame Carpentry II: This course provides instruction and work-based application in commercial frame carpentry including roofs, trusses, and structural timber construction.

CRP203

Commercial Form Carpentry I: This course provides instruction and work-based application in commercial form carpentry skills including footing and edge forms.

CRP204

Commercial Form Carpentry II: This course provides instruction and work-based application in commercial form carpentry skills including wall forms, on-grade curb forms, piers and columns, and beam forms.

CRP205

Commercial Form Carpentry III: This course provides instruction and work-based application in commercial form carpentry skills including above-grade slab systems, fireproof encasement forms, stair forms, and bridge deck forms.

CRP206

Commercial Finish Carpentry: This course provides instruction and work-based application in commercial finish carpentry skills including insulation, drywall, interior walls and ceilings, exterior doors, and hardware.

CRP207

Practical Experience-Live Projects Level II: This course allows students to develop and improve hands on skills related to actual projects involving remodeling, rough in framing, and cabinet work.
