The program is structured to provide the students with a foundation in the basic sciences and subjects unique to the operating room. Upon completing the program, the graduate Surgical Technologist will be able to function as a member of the surgical team delivering direct patient care before, during, and after surgical intervention.
The instructional program content, which is 1,200 hours of classroom and clinical instruction, is based on an occupational analysis of the surgical technology field, and is adjusted to reflect local employment; local employment needs as determined by the instructor, administrators, and advisory committee.
Upon successful completion of the program, the graduate will be eligible to sit for the National Certification Examination. The program closely follows the guidelines of the Accreditation Review Committee on Education in Surgical Technology and the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.

| SRG103 | Introduction to Surgical Technology: This course will introduce the student to the field of Surgical Technology. This course includes the study of medical legal aspects, ethical conduct, and professional responsibilities to the patient, surgical team, hospital, and community. | |
| SRG104 | Medical Terminology: This course covers all areas of medical science and paramedical specialties. Medical terminology is the technical language of the science of medicine. Medical Terminology tells "stories" concerning all phases of medicine. Therefore the Surgical Technologist requires an understanding of the basic elements used to compose medical terms. The student will be introduced to three hundred and fifty (350) word elements, prefixes, suffixes, and word parts, and will utilize correct pronunciation and spelling skills. | |
| SRG105 | Biomedical Science: This course will provide the student with information relating to electricity, electrical flow, electrical knowledge, and the principles of physics to safe patient care practices in the operation room upon completion of this course. | |
| SRG106 | Anatomy and Physiology-Pathophysiology: This course will introduce the student to a fundamental background in human anatomy and physiology which will enable the student to acquire a greater appreciation of the conditions requiring surgical intervention. This course will enable the student to compare and contract the various surgical pathologies of each body system. It will provide an opportunity for exploration of reasons for physical and mental differences between people, as well as opportunity to use anatomical terminology in speaking and writing. | |
| SRG107 | Aseptic Technique: This course will introduce the student to the principles and practices of aseptic technique. Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to discuss and demonstrate the principles of aseptic technique. | |
| SRG108 | Aseptic Technique Skills Competencies: This course will introduce the student to the skills related to the principles and practice of aseptic technique. Upon completion of this course the student will be able to demonstrate the aseptic technique skills in the surgical environment. | |
| SRG109 | Patient Care: This course will provide the student with an awareness of the total needs of the surgical patient (physical, emotional, social, spiritual), and to achieve an understanding of what preoperative preparation is needed and the responsibilities of the surgical personnel in providing this care. Upon completion of this course the student will be able to demonstrate patient care skills in the surgical environment. | |
| SRG110 | Surgical Case Management: This course will introduce the student to the supplies and equipment that are an integral part of their training as a Surgical Technologist. Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to demonstrate competency in using supplies and equipment in the surgical environment. | |
| SRG111 | Pharmacology: This course familiarizes the student with the various drugs used in surgery and their administration. The student should also attain an understanding of basic anesthesia equipment, drugs, and methods, in order to function effectively in the surgical setting, and to efficiently assist the anesthesia personnel if required. | |
| SRG112 | Microbiology and Wound Healing: This course is designed to provide the student with a background in microbiology. This course will provide a better understanding of the relationship between micro-organisms and the maintenance of health and/or the prevention of disease. | |
| SRG113 | Surgical Procedures I: This course is designed to provide instruction in basic, intermediate, and advanced core procedures outlined in the curriculum. The student should be able to apply the attained knowledge to each of the following surgical procedures: Introduction to Surgical Procedures; Endoscopic-Robotic Procedures; General Surgery Procedures; Gastrointestinal Procedures; Obstetric and Gynecologic Procedures; Genitourinary Procedures; Otorhinolarynologic Procedures; and Orthopedic Procedures. | |
| SRG114 | Surgical Procedures II: This course is designed to provide instruction in basic, intermediate and advanced specialty procedures outlined in the curriculum. The student should be able to apply the attained knowledge to each of the following surgical procedures: Ophthalmic procedures; Plastic and Reconstructive Procedures; Neurosurgery Procedures; Thoracic Procedures; Cardiovascular and Peripheral Procedures; and Oral Maxillofacial Procedures. | |
