Description:
This course is designed to provide students who want to earn a living as a medical office employee with the occupational skills and knowledge essential to initial employment. Students will become skilled on the various business machines offices are currently using, such as computers, transcription machines, electronic calculators, fax machines, copiers, digital cameras, digital video cameras, etc. This course is open to high school juniors and seniors, as well as adults.

| FMO101 | Computer Fundamentals & MS Office Applications: Students will learn how to operate and troubleshoot a microcomputer. Students will be responsible for learning how to use operating systems, especially Windows XP, and learn about the parts of a computer, as well as how it operates. | |
| FMO102 | Medical Document Processing: Students will be able to create letters, memos, reports, and other text-based documents needed in a medical environment. The students will be able to perfect and enhance documents, share it among workgroups, and use the Internet to support and communicate the documents created. | |
| FMO103 | Medical Terminology: This course will help students prepare for a variety of professional and paraprofessional careers in the medical field, including the areas of direct patient care and support services. Each body system will be taught as well as integration of the anatomy, physiology, and pathology information needed in a medical office career. | |
| FMO104 | Medical Office Procedures: Students will learn the procedural steps in performing the administrative functions in a medical facility from the role of receptionist through appointment scheduling, telephone techniques, correspondence and mail processing, records management, professional fees, billing and collections, bookkeeping, insurance, and meetings and travel arrangements. Special attention is directed to the evolution of managed care and to the responsibilities of office management. | |
| FMO105 | Medical Insurance/Billing/Coding: Accurately processing health insurance claims has become more exacting at the same time health insurance plan options have rapidly expanded. These changes, combined with modifications in state and federal regulations, are a constant challenge to health care personnel. This course will provide the required information for those responsible for processing health insurance claims. | |
| FMO106 | Medical Transcription: Complete instruction in the technique and skills of transcription is provided to the student as well as direct instruction in essential medical terminology, editing, proofreading guidelines, and report formats. | |
